This weekend, 11-13 October, is the The 2012 Interdisciplinary Conference on Human Trafficking at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. This conference takes a multidisciplinary and academic approach to examining some good practices in the United States and around the world. Talks will presented on promising practices, methodology, knowledge-sharing, data gathering, and existing gaps in research. Because trafficking is a complex and multidisciplinary effort, this conference gathers practitioners from all areas including media, legal, social work, and now heath care. You are welcome to view the program here.

Human trafficking is perhaps one of the most emotionally gripping issues we face today. It is easy to want to jump in and start doing something now. Therefore, it is even more imperative that we use sound evidence on which to base our interventions. In addition to presenting on how health professionals play a key role in addressing trafficking in persons, I’m looking forward to meeting with current partners from Asia, as well as networking with new colleagues.
